About the museum
Maria Reitz established the foundation in 1971 by a bequest. The foundation is named after her husband Lauri Reitz and their son Lasse Reitz. Lauri Reitz was a prominent Helsinki master builder who, together with his wife, assembled a collection of art and antiques in their home.
The foundation maintains the art museum in the family’s former home on Apollonkatu and adds to the collection with the returns on its funds. Admission to the museum and its public guided tours is free of charge, and the guided tours are also free for groups of more than 10 people. The collection includes almost two hundred paintings, valuable antique silver, weapons dating from the 1500s, Meissen and Sèvres porcelain, rare clocks and snuffboxes, and antique furniture.
