About the museum
Virkki kotimuseo (Virkki Home Museum) is the apartment in Taka-Töölö, on Merikannontie, preserved as the home of craft councillor Tyyne-Kerttu Virkki. Virkki was born in Sakkola in 1907, and she was awarded the title of craft councillor in 1977. She moved into a newly built house in 1952 and furnished her home in the spirit of post-war modernism. Practical everyday design, applied art and high-quality craftsmanship were important to her.
The museum tour proceeds from room to room. For example, the kitchen is furnished with works by well-known Finnish designers such as Tapio Wirkkala, Paavo Tynell, Rut Bryk and Lisa Johansson-Pape. The museum depicts the practical everyday aesthetics of the 1940s and 1950s. The museum is maintained by the Tyyne-Kerttu Virkki Foundation (Tyyne-Kerttu Virkki -säätiö).
