About the museum
Marela was the home of a wealthy shipowner family on Kauppakatu in Vanha Rauma. The Granlund family owned the house from the 1870s until 1906, and the family prospered during the peak years of Rauma’s sailing-ship era in the 1890s.
The house has operated as a museum since 1982 and is one of the sites of the Rauman museo (Rauma Museum). The museum shows how the wealthy shipowner family lived at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The Marela museum shop sells works by local craftspeople, handmade Rauma lace and the museum’s own products. The house’s dining room can be rented for meetings, lectures and small celebrations.
