About the museum
The Masku museum is located in the old village of Humikkala, along Maskuntie. The road was previously known as the Postitie (Post Road). The museum has operated since 1974. The museum building dates from the 1840s and has changed its shape over the years. The building served as a coaching inn for both officials and private travellers. The main road to Turku was in busy use, and only the rise of motor traffic ended coaching-inn operations in Humikkala in the 1920s.
The museum courtyard has three storehouses dating from the mid-19th century. They were renovated in the early 1990s and serve as exhibition and storage spaces for the museum.
The museum’s collection consists mainly of peasant objects, about 1,600 in number. In addition, the museum has a book and magazine collection of over 450 items and the bookshop of Masku-Seura ry (Masku Society). The museum’s main exhibition depicts the coaching-inn era, and in a separate exhibition space there are art exhibitions in summer. Nearby is also the Maskun Rosarium, with about 450 rose bushes.
