About the museum
The Mustiala agricultural history museum operates in the grounds of Finland's first agricultural school, at the edge of the park. It is one of the country's earliest museums. The museum was initiated by Gösta Grotenfelt, who taught at the Mustiala Agricultural and Dairy Institute and served as its director in the late 1800s. He collected old agricultural and household tools, as well as books, on collecting trips around Finland.
In 1905 one of the country's first museum buildings was completed for the collections; it now serves as a storage museum. The exhibition spaces are in a building completed in 1935, designed by architect Jalmari Peltonen. The building is protected. The collection now comprises more than 4,000 objects.
The permanent exhibition still follows a departmental division almost a hundred years old, and presents machines, tools and equipment from the age when agricultural work was everyday life across the country. The museum is now run by Mustialan perinneyhdistys ry (Mustiala Heritage Association).
