About the museum
The collection of the Tannisen museo was assembled by Sulo Tanninen (1896–1974), a teacher at Liesjärvi school who worked in Liesjärvi from 1927 to 1961. All the objects were collected from the village of Liesjärvi, and they are mainly 19th-century items related to agriculture, forestry, livestock keeping and household use.
The people of Liesjärvi built the museum building with communal volunteer labour (talkoot) in the school yard. The museum was initially maintained by the Lounais-Hämeen Kotiseutu- ja Museoyhdistys (Southwest Häme Local Heritage and Museum Association). After the school closed, the museum building was moved to Saari People’s Park in 2013. The building and the collection are owned by the Municipality of Tammela.
