About the museum

The Idänsuhteiden museo Nootti (Museum of Eastern Relations Nootti) opened to the public on 15 February 2025 in the premises of the Tampere workers' hall. Its exhibition follows Finland's relations with Russia and the Soviet Union from independence in 1917 to the present day. The museum describes itself as the only museum in the country dedicated to this subject.

The exhibition deals with political turning points, from the war years to the friendship policy of the Cold War and the post-Soviet era. Cultural exchange, trade with the East, travel and everyday life are also presented, and the collections consist mainly of material from the Soviet period. The exhibition includes a timeline from 1809 to the 2020s, and an audio guide can be borrowed at the museum.

In the same premises the Leninin museo (Lenin Museum) operated from 1946 to 2024. It had been founded in the very hall where Lenin and Stalin first met in 1905 at a secret Bolshevik meeting. Nootti replaced the Lenin Museum in the same premises.
