About the museum
The Suomen Nyrkkeilymuseo (Finnish Boxing Museum) was founded in Tampere in 1991. Its founders were Tauno Salminen, Olavi Bäckström and Atle Salokangas. The museum is run on a volunteer basis by the Suomen Nyrkkeilymuseoyhdistys ry (Finnish Boxing Museum Association), and in 2026 it celebrates 35 years with a theme exhibition.
The museum’s collections contain more than 10,000 objects, such as boxing equipment, medals, photographs and publications, of which about 2,000 are on display. The basic exhibition traces the history of boxing from antiquity to today’s popularity. It presents Finnish ring heroes and the figures who influenced the administration and development of the sport. New donations are also on display, for example from the careers of Olli Mäki and Tarmo Uusivirta.
The museum still accepts donations of objects related to boxing.
