About the museum
The Pedersörenejdens hembygdsmuseum is housed in the large stone barn at Rosenlund parsonage. The barn was built of grey stone in the 1770s, during the time of Gabriel Aspegren as provost at Rosenlund, and at that time it was one of the largest and most splendid in the country. It is one of the few larger stone barns that have been preserved.
On the building’s two floors, folk life and farming in Pedersöre in the past are shown. The collections include farm and forestry tools, hunting and trapping equipment, carpentry and shoemaking tools, an almost complete tinsmith’s workshop from the early 1900s, and the fittings and tools of a smithy. The stable is furnished with objects and furniture from a folk home, and there is also a collection of old toys. The objects reflect the ingenuity of the common people, for example a forerunner of the Hankmoharven (Hankmo harrow), a potato lifter and a homemade knitting machine from the 1860s–1870s.
Among the objects is the 112 kg Skriftskolestenen (Skriftskola stone), which used to lie at Pedersöre church, and lifting it was a test of manhood for the young boys of the district. The museum can be visited, among other times, during the summer fiddlers’ service (spelmansgudstjänst) in July.
