About the museum
Skyttala museum was founded in 1956 on the initiative of local heritage activist Walter Johansson. The museum lies about six kilometres from Pargas centre, on its original site in a cultivated landscape that is still farmed. The Skyttala farmstead is already mentioned in sources from the 1500s.
The museum includes the old main farmhouse from the 1700–1800 turn of the century, the small cottage that served as a sewing room, the grain storehouse from the 1700s and the ria with its preserved oven and drying poles. A windmill also stands on the museum grounds. The interior of the main building shows how people lived and worked on a farm in Pargas in the 1800s, and the small cottage has space for smaller temporary exhibitions.
