About the museum
The Customs Museum is located on Susisaari island in Suomenlinna. It is run by Tulli (Finnish Customs) and presents the history of customs and smuggling.
The permanent exhibition in two rooms covers smuggling in different eras, from alcohol smuggling during Prohibition to the trade in counterfeit medicines in the 21st century. The exhibition tells, among other things, of the smuggling of Bibles from Finland to the Soviet Union in the 1960s–1980s and of the smuggling of icons in the opposite direction in the 1970s and 1980s.
