About the museum
The Ylöjärvi local heritage museum is located at Hietastenmäki in Ylöjärvi. The Ylöjärvi-Seura (Ylöjärvi Society) began collecting objects for the museum in 1963, and the museum opened to the public in 1971. In 1999 the museum came under the administration of the then municipality of Ylöjärvi. Today the museum is guided by a museum committee with representatives of the City of Ylöjärvi and Ylöjärvi-Seura.
The museum courtyard has 11 buildings, the oldest of which date from the 18th century. The collection includes more than 1,400 objects, including old working tools. In summer the museum organises activities for children and adults.
