About the museum
Constantin Brancusi worked from 1916 at the Impasse Ronsin in the 15th arrondissement of Paris, where he created most of his work. In 1957 he bequeathed the contents of his studio to the French state, on condition that it reconstruct it.
A first reconstruction opened opposite the Centre Pompidou in 1977 and closed in 1990 after flooding. A new version, housed in a building designed by Renzo Piano, reopened in 1997. It included 137 sculptures and 87 original pedestals, as well as drawings, paintings and several hundred photographic glass plates and original prints.
The studio is temporarily closed during the works at the Centre Pompidou. Its building on the piazza now houses the Maison Pompidou, a free space presenting the history and transformation of the Centre.
