About the museum
The museum occupies casemate no. 35 on the third line of defence of the Rhine Maginot Line at Marckolsheim. It commemorates the fighting of June 15–17, 1940, which destroyed more than 80% of the town.
The interior rooms have been restored to their 1940 state: firing chambers, generator room, dormitory, command post and shaft. Original weapons are on display, including an anti-tank gun, machine guns, mortars and Bren light machine guns.
Outside, vehicles and military equipment are shown: a Sherman tank, a half-track, an armoured car, a Russian 152 mm gun, a Bofors anti-aircraft gun and a section of Bailey bridge.
