About the museum

The Centre d’histoire de la résistance et de la déportation is located in Lyon in the former headquarters of the Gestapo, where Klaus Barbie worked. The museum opened on October 15, 1992 to preserve the memory of the Resistance and of the persecution during the Occupation.

The permanent exhibition “Lyon dans la guerre, 1939-1945” traces daily life, repression, the persecution of Jews, deportation and the action of the Resistance in the city. The museum holds testimonies, everyday objects and documents, and offers an online collections portal.

The centre also organises temporary exhibitions, guided tours, lectures and city walks. It is one of the six municipal museums of the City of Lyon and has a library open to the public.
