About the museum
The Duduchothèque was created in memory of the press cartoonist Cabu, born in Châlons-en-Champagne, who died in January 2015 in the attack on Charlie Hebdo. It opened on December 1, 2018 with the exhibition “K-Bu avant Cabu”, which presented drawings made between 1948 and 1960.
Its name comes from Le Grand Duduche, a character Cabu created that recalls his high-school years. The venue draws on his childhood notebooks, first drawings and sketches published in the local daily L’Union. It also hosts temporary exhibitions, lectures, film screenings and city tours, and university researchers can consult its holdings.
The space is housed in a 19th-century house that was successively the Musée Schiller-Goethe and then the city’s centre for the interpretation of architecture and heritage. It also offers a virtual tour and booklets on Cabu’s life and work.
