About the museum
The museum is housed in the former girls’ school of Sarrance, in the Aspe valley. It traces the history of one of the oldest pilgrimage sites to the Virgin of the Béarn Pyrenees. The famous legend of the bull tells of the miraculous discovery of a statue of the Virgin on the bank of the Gave, and explains the origins of the sanctuary, whose importance grew over the centuries.
The route also covers popular beliefs, local traditions and the many personalities who visited this spiritual site. It complements a visit to the church and the Premonstratensian cloister, and gives context on the religious and heritage history of Sarrance. The site is part of the Aspe valley ecomuseum, managed by the Haut-Béarn communauté de communes.
