About the museum

The Lourdios-Ichère ecomuseum, opened in 1992, originally showed village life. After thirty years, the Haut-Béarn communauté de communes decided to completely redesign the displays: some supports and tools no longer worked, and the content needed updating. The project, coordinated by the Pays d’art et d’histoire service, received support from the European Union (Leader Haut-Béarn), the Region and the Department, and involved residents, livestock farmers from the Béarn valleys and visitors.

After consultation with the farmers and residents, the site took the name “Ça-ï Ça-ï, écomusée du pastoralisme”. On the first floor, the commune created a sales space for farmers. On the second floor, panels, digital media and hands-on games present objects classified by use. On the third floor, an immersive film gives the floor to livestock farmers, with their life stories and know-how. Outside, a trail accessible by phone with the Wivisites app, and a booklet for young visitors, complete the visit.
