About the museum
The Villa Bedat is located on the Confluence site in Oloron-Sainte-Marie, where the Aspe and Ossau gaves meet. The site first housed craft and then industrial activity, including the Bedat sandal factory.
The venue serves as the cultural and heritage centre of the Haut-Béarn and as an interpretation centre for the architecture and heritage of the Béarn Pyrenees (Pays d’art et d’histoire). On the second floor, the 200 m² permanent exhibition “Les Pyrénées béarnaises, une terre d’exception” offers nine playful and educational spaces. Films, models and audio testimonies present the geological history, landscapes, know-how, daily life of the people of the Haut-Béarn, the estives (high mountain pastures) and pastoralism.
