About the museum
The Espace Georges Brassens opened in 1991 in Sète, the hometown of the poet and singer, who was born on October 22, 1921. It was conceived not as a conventional museum but as a place dedicated to the poet-musician. Its architecture is transparent and opens a wide panorama over the Étang de Thau.
A final extension in 2006 brought the museum’s floor area to 800 m². The route is chronological and consists of ten themed rooms, each with its own atmosphere. Audio and video installations immerse the visitor in the artist’s world, from his childhood in Sète to his Parisian life and fame.
The venue also offers an audio guide, a shop, a documentation centre, travelling exhibitions and a programme of events (concerts, meetings, workshops).
