About the museum
The Atelier des savoir-faire is located in Ravilloles, in the heart of the Haut-Jura, in a building that was once the Bourbon woodturning factory. Its museum tells, from the 15th century onwards, the trades and techniques of the Jura mountains, with a focus on woodturning: pipes, toys, spectacle frames, jewellery and everyday objects made of turned wood.
The circuit alternates models, tools, videos and testimonies. The materials room lets visitors touch and smell the materials used by craftspeople (heather, galalith, corozo, box, stone, leather). The Bourbon room recalls the former factory, the machine room shows old and modern lathes and tools, and the space of know-how pays tribute to the Haut-Jura’s traditional trades. One room is dedicated to creations by pupils of the Lycée du bois Pierre Vernotte in Moirans-en-Montagne.
The second part of the museum hosts an exhibition on contemporary craft creation every year. The site also offers woodturning demonstrations, craft courses, workshops for children, a FabLab, a shop of local creations and the Sentier des savoir-faire, which links Ravilloles to Cuttura.
