About the museum
La Petite Provence is a santon village set up on the Vallis Clausa site, on the banks of the Sorgue, in Fontaine-de-Vaucluse. It features more than 400 dressed santons about 40 cm tall, placed in buildings at a scale of 1:6.
The scenery recreates a traditional Provençal village with its market square, café, washhouse, school, a mas, a church and many traditional trades. There is also a reproduction of the Bastide des Jourdans and of Alphonse Daudet’s mill.
The visit ends with a shop at the exit of the village, which sells handmade soaps, olive-wood objects, scented candles, lavender products, santons and nativity accessories. The village shares its site with the Vallis Clausa paper mill and the Le Monde Souterrain museum.
