About the museum
From the mid-19th century, the Johnnies, onion sellers, left Roscoff every summer to sell their goods in Great Britain. Their name comes from “petit John.”
The museum is housed in a small traditional Breton farmhouse near the port. It retraces the Johnnies’ journey across the Channel and presents the Roscoff pink onion, known for its color and its mild, sweet taste. The lively, modern route uses photographs and films. It also covers the production of the Roscoff onion, which obtained the AOC in 2009 and the AOP in 2013.
In summer, guided tours and events complement the self-guided visit. An onion festival is held in August.
