About the museum
The Maison des Minéraux occupies a former rural school in Saint-Hernot, between Morgat and the Cap de la Chèvre. It presents the environment of the Crozon peninsula, of Finistère and of the Armorican Massif. It is run by the association Centre Régional d’Étude et de Promotion du Patrimoine Naturel.
The visit route passes through several rooms: a hands-on room with a digital sandbox, the geology of the peninsula and its fossils, the rocks and minerals of the Armorican Massif, including the collection of Quimper geologist François Le Bail (1903–1979), a room devoted to the nature reserve, and a room of fluorescent minerals. The route continues into the Jardin Insolit(h)e des roches de Bretagne, which covers 5,600 m² and displays 27 Breton rocks in creative installations.
The association offers activities all year round: nature and geology walks, workshops with Professeur Kaolin, guided tours and a fablab. It also welcomes more than 6,000 pupils a year for school activities approved by the Éducation nationale.
