About the museum
The Maison du Bois et de la Forêt was founded in 1993. It is located in the heart of the cité du bois in Mouchard, where two schools teach woodworking trades: the Lycée des Métiers du Bois, a public school, and the Institut des Compagnons du Tour de France, a private institution.
The association-run museum presents the timber industry across roughly 250 m². It brings together machines, tools, more than 450 wood samples from around the world, a 1940s workshop that is still in operation, as well as numerous explanatory panels and old photographs.
The guided visit follows the journey of wood, from its first processing to the end of the products' life.
