About the museum
The museum occupies part of the Château Pécauld, a building dating from the 13th to 18th centuries in the heart of Arbois, a town renowned for its Jura wines. The first collections were gathered from the 1970s onwards; they moved into the château, restored in 1993.
The visit begins outside, in reconstructed vineyards showing the seasonal work of the Franche-Comté winegrower and the different grape varieties of the region. Inside, the cellars and rooms show winemaking methods, the history of the winegrowing world and its traditions, such as the Biou, vin jaune or the wine cooperatives (fruitières vinicoles).
From 2010 onwards, the museum reorganised its collections: many pieces kept in storage returned to the galleries, along with recent acquisitions from gifts by residents of the Jura. The route also recalls the inventors from Arbois of the early 20th century who made the work of winegrowers easier.
