About the museum
The Manoir de l'automobile is located in Lohéac, in Ille-et-Vilaine, in the buildings of a former farm complex called the Cour Neuve, with a 17th-century manor house. Michel Hommell, a car collector since the age of 18, bought the farm to bring together his scattered vehicles. Turning the site into a museum took more than fifteen years of work with local craftspeople.
The route presents more than 400 vehicles from all eras and countries, including horse-drawn carriages, motorcycles and bicycles, spread across many rooms: early automobiles, racing cars, rooms dedicated to Lamborghini and Enzo Ferrari, Alpine, prestige and cyclecars, rallycross and sports cars, and a GT room. A starting grid of 18 Formula 1 cars takes up one wing of the building. Around 100 figures in period costume bring the scenes to life.
The museum also includes a model space with some thirty dioramas and more than 3,000 miniature cars, the engine chapel, a reconstructed garage and an old gas station, as well as a screening room. A 1930s guinguette with a barrel organ and a cider bar complete the visit.
The “vieux métiers” section recreates some twenty shops and workshops, such as the hairdresser, butcher, dentist and taxidermist. The site also includes a 2.5 km racing circuit, rented to driving schools, individuals and clubs, as well as seminar rooms.
