About the museum

MO.CO., short for Montpellier Contemporain, is a contemporary art institution bringing together three venues in Montpellier: the Hôtel des collections at 13 rue de la République, La Panacée and the École supérieure des beaux-arts (ESBA). The project was launched by the City of Montpellier and is funded by the City and the State.

The Hôtel des collections occupies the former Hôtel Montcalm and was fitted out by the architecture firm PCA-STREAM. It opened on June 29, 2019 with the inaugural exhibition “Intimate Distance”, made up of works from the collection of a Japanese entrepreneur. The venue is devoted to presenting public and private collections from around the world.

La Panacée, open since 2013 in the former Collège royal de médecine, hosts free-admission exhibitions, and the ESBA has adapted its teaching so that students take part in running the institution. The Jardin des cinq continents, a work by Bertrand Lavier, is open in the evening.
