About the museum
The Musée d'Argenteuil is a local-history museum founded in 1932. It moved into the premises of the town’s former hospital on rue Pierre Guienne, which René Coiffier had bequeathed in 1674 to the Sisters of Charity (Filles de la Charité) and which served as a hospital until their move.
The collections were originally assembled by the Société du Vieil Argenteuil; the City took over management in 2004. They cover the history of the suburbs from prehistory to the present day, including rural life linked to viticulture and market gardening, the town’s industrial past and archaeology, notably the Notre-Dame abbey.
The building requires major renovation work. According to the City, the museum is currently closed to the public and its collections are kept in storage; no reopening date has been published.
