About the museum
The museum is located in Vierville-sur-Mer, on Omaha Beach, in a building that served as an American field hospital after the D-Day landings of June 6, 1944. It presents the collection of the Brissard family: Michel Brissard and his sons began gathering items in the 1970s and found many during excavations carried out across Normandy between 1980 and 1999. The collection includes rare weapons, equipment from Allied and German units, medical objects and an Enigma machine bought at a flea market in 1999.
A first museum existed from 1985 to 1993. The current museum was created on May 30, 1999, when the town sold the former town hall to Michel Brissard for one symbolic franc. After his death in 2012, his two sons, Antoine and Fabien, reopened the museum in 2013. The restaurant L’Embusqué opened in 2019, and a free audio guide and a virtual reality film were added in 2025.
The collection comprises several thousand pieces displayed indoors and outdoors, between the American cemetery and Pointe du Hoc. A renewal of the route is announced for 2026–2027.
