About the museum

The museum is run by the Société des Amis du Vieux Toulon et de sa Région, a nonprofit association founded on February 28, 1912 and run by volunteers. Its collections come largely from donations received since its founding; the first inventory register dates from 1923. The society has moved premises four times over its history.

The museum is housed in a well-preserved former oil mill at 10 rue Saint-Andrieux. Its purpose is to collect and preserve artworks and documents relating to the history of Toulon and its region, such as the library of Octave Teissier or the collection of notebooks by Pierre Letuaire.

On the ground floor, a bright exhibition room displays documents, objects, models, a relief map, sketchbooks, busts, paintings and watercolors. The second floor houses the society's library and the third floor the storerooms; an elevator serves both levels. Admission to the museum is entirely free.
