About the museum
The project for a history and society museum in Gonesse arose from the wish to keep collections on the history of education in Île-de-France. Collecting began in 1981. The holdings now total nearly 50,000 objects and documents from the 19th century to the present: school textbooks, exercise books, games, classroom furniture, photographs and pupils’ work.
Since 2019, La Fabrique du musée has served as the preparatory space for the Pôle culturel de Coulanges, rue de Paris. The collections are shown there in exhibitions, mediation activities are tested, and residents, pupils, teachers and associations are invited to contribute to the future museum. The site is now run by the Roissy Pays de France urban community.
The museum received the “Musée de France” label in 2023. It is due to move into the former Gonesse hospital-hospice, built in 1841. The architectural competition was won in 2025; work is announced to start in 2027 and the opening in 2029. The project links education, health and society.
