About the museum
The Musée de l’Amiral opened in 2002 in Penhors, a seaside hamlet in the commune of Pouldreuzic, on the initiative of Guy Ségalen, a passionate traveler and nature lover. The heart of the museum is its shell collection, gathered over journeys from island to island and port to port.
The history of the site is also linked to a bequest: an admiral entrusted his collection of seabirds to the museum to raise public awareness of species protection. Donations and discoveries later enriched the rooms, which today rank among the most important private collections in France.
Across more than 500 m², display cases, video projections and recreated natural habitats present shells, coastal birds staged in scenes, sharks, corals, fossils and minerals. The museum also has an enclosed garden facing the sea, with children's play equipment, lounge chairs and picnic tables, as well as a 120 m² museum shop.
