About the museum

The museum was founded in 1833 and opened its doors that November. It belongs to the Monnaie de Paris, the institution responsible for minting coins, and is housed in the Hôtel de la Monnaie on the quai de Conti. The building celebrates its 250th anniversary in 2026.

Closed in 2010 for renovation, it reopened in 2017 as “Le 11 Conti” with an entirely redesigned route. The site combines a museum with a manufacturing facility still in operation: visitors can see engraving workshops and the foundry where art pieces are cast.

The collections comprise around 170,000 objects: coins, medals, tokens, hoards, old tools and machines, as well as paintings and sculptures. The permanent route presents a selection of these objects, with interactive displays that explain how coins are struck.
