About the museum

In spring 1944, Mont-Mouchet was one of France’s five major maquis. The resistance fighters aimed to prevent the German army, stationed in the south, from advancing north toward Normandy. The site became a major place of Resistance memory in Auvergne, with a memorial and several discovery trails in the state forest (forêt domaniale).

The museum occupies a building owned by the Auvergne Region, while the collections belong to CODURA. It is managed by the PETR Pays de Lafayette. A renewed exhibition design guides visitors through the great events of this dark period, following the story of two comic-strip characters, Lucien and Pierrot, who join the maquis.

The route is based on authentic objects, documents, photographs and a film of about thirty minutes. It is aimed at adults and children alike and is suited to family visits.
