About the museum
The museum was created in 1967 by an association dedicated to the memory of the Maquis Montcalm (Maquis de Mussy-Grancey) and the fighting of August 1944 in the region, with the help of the Archives départementales de l’Aube. Inaugurated in 1971, it was first run by an association and became a municipal museum in 1974. Today it is run by the commune of Mussy-sur-Seine.
The museum has been redesigned with immersive museography. It presents the Resistance in the Aube across three permanent exhibition rooms and one temporary exhibition room. The collections come mainly from resistance fighters and local families: radio equipment, clothing of maquisards and political deportees, everyday objects, as well as archives, posters and photographs. Drawings, paintings and sculptures also tell the story of this period, and works of contemporary art make the link with the present.
The museum bears the designation “Musée de France” and presents itself as the only museum in the Grand Est region devoted to the Resistance.
