About the museum
The museum’s cellars date from the 17th and 18th centuries. At the end of the 17th century they belonged to Gilberte de la Roche-Brillant, heiress of the Aubière seigneury, which gave them the name “Cave à Madame”.
The museum tells the story of the tradition and revival of viticulture in Basse-Auvergne. It presents the know-how and objects characteristic of the period from the late 19th to the mid-20th century. The route includes a room reconstructing the vine’s annual cycle, displays of winegrowers’ tools, a cooperage workshop, and a display in the cuvage (vat room) showing the stages of winemaking up to the grape harvest festivities.
The museum is part of the Clermont Auvergne Métropole museums.
