About the museum

The museum was founded in 1988 in Bagnoles de l'Orne by enthusiasts of firefighting heritage. The museum association was founded on March 13, 1992. Its mission is to preserve and pass on the heritage of firefighters in the Orne, in France and abroad, and to help local firefighter associations promote their collections.

The former museum in Bagnoles de l'Orne closed in 2014. The collections were then installed in Saint-Julien-sur-Sarthe, where the museum reopened in 2023 in the Maison des sapeurs-pompiers de l'Orne, headquarters of the Union départementale des sapeurs-pompiers de l'Orne.

The permanent exhibition area covers 1,200 m². It displays small equipment, horse-drawn pumps and motorized vehicles, and invites visitors to discover two centuries of firefighting history.
