About the museum
The Musée des arômes et du parfum de Graveson was founded in 1989. It is housed in former cellars linked to the Abbaye Saint-Michel de Frigolet, between the Alpilles and the Montagnette, near Les Baux-de-Provence and Saint-Rémy.
The route brings together apparatus dating from the late 18th to the early 20th century: stills in glass and copper, concentrators and extractors, measuring instruments, a perfumer's organ, rare flasks, and containers for essential oils and floral waters. It also shows a working miniature factory from the late 19th century, a reconstructed laboratory from the same period, and a presentation of enfleurage, an extraction method known since antiquity.
Outside, the Carré des simples is a garden of aromatic plants, where verbena, mint, lavender, basil and rosemary grow, for example. Lavender distillation demonstrations take place in summer.
