About the museum
The collection began at the end of the 19th century, when Herminie de Rohan started gathering dolls and toys. More than a century later, Antoinette de Rohan rediscovered these objects in the attic of the Château de Josselin. It took several years to catalogue and complete them.
The museum opened in 1984 with a few hundred dolls. Thanks to numerous donors it now holds around 5,000 pieces and presents itself as the largest private collection of dolls and toys in France. The oldest objects date from the 17th century.
It includes dolls in Breton costume, a set of Japanese dolls, doll's houses, toy tea sets, board games, toy animals, and old and modern trains and aeroplanes. Since 1988, a different theme has been presented every year. The museum is located in the grounds of the Château de Josselin, and admission is included in the castle ticket.
