About the museum
The museum occupies a large 16th-century residence on Rue de l’Hôtel-Dieu in Saint-Julien-du-Sault, in the Yonne department. It is a municipal museum, and the building is listed as a historic monument or classified as such.
It invites visitors to discover the lifestyle, know-how and traditions of past residents through their trades, tools and everyday objects. Eight rooms present reconstructions of living conditions: a 19th-century forge, a peasant dwelling and a winegrower’s cellar.
The museum bears the name of Philippe Makédonsky and is open to the public mainly in summer. Groups of at least ten people can book a guided tour all year round.
