About the museum
The museum grew out of the Société Julien Sacaze, which in 1922 wanted to preserve the resources of the Hautes Vallées du Comminges and dedicate a museum to the local life and mountain traditions of Luchon. It opened in 1926.
It is housed in a small château built in 1772 by Marc François Bertrand de Lassus-Nestier, on the Allées d'Étigny.
The collections cover several areas: the ethnology collection of Louis Saudinos (tools and old objects from southern France), the archaeological finds of Julien Sacaze from the Luchon region, lithographs, drawings and prints of the Comminges by Bertrand de Gorsse, winter sports souvenirs of Alban Rougé, and the Carte Lezat.
