About the museum

Roger Tinguely, passionate about his native mountains, has been gathering many objects from the Haut-Jura since the 1980s. He collected nearly 800 pairs of skis from barns and attics in the surrounding area. In 1985 he founded one of the first ski museums in France.

The museum is in the basement of the Le Grand Tétras gîte holiday lodge in Les Rousses. The building originally hosted school trips and snow school classes. A museum made it possible to pass on a love of the region to children.

The route presents a collection of skis from 1850 to the present and bobsleighs from 1895 to 1968. It also shows snow surfboards and sleds, the methods used to make the first French skis, and stone-working, woodworking, farming and everything that made up daily life in the mountains.

The visit lasts about 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes. The owner tells the story in his own way, and it suits all ages.
