About the museum

The Musée du Vexin français is housed in the outbuildings of the château of Théméricourt, a 15th-century manor house that is home to the Maison du Parc, the headquarters of the Vexin français Regional Nature Park. The six-hectare estate belongs to the Val-d’Oise departmental council, which makes it available to the Park’s mixed syndicate. On the occasion of the Park’s thirtieth anniversary, the museum was named after Gérard Claudel, the Park’s first president and founder.

Designed as a territorial interpretation centre, the museum presents, over more than 400 square metres, the geographical, historical and heritage components of the Vexin français in a playful and educational approach. Different areas are devoted to natural environments, fauna and flora, geology and landscapes. The region is also told through its inhabitants and traditions, through the Vasseur-Loiseaux collection, a set of folk art objects.

Two rooms host temporary exhibitions every year on contemporary issues linked to the Park’s missions. The museum is also a visitor centre, a tourist information point and the hub of the network of the Park’s theme museums and houses.
