About the museum
The Musée Lombart was founded in 1904 by Jules François Lombart, a chocolate manufacturer from Paris, traveller and collector with wide-ranging tastes. He had it built in Doullens, the small town in Picardy from which his parents came. The museum was completed in 1908 and houses the bulk of his collection.
The building's architecture and gardens have been kept as they were originally and survived both World Wars. The Chapelle de Louvencourt, an annex of the museum, hosts temporary exhibitions.
The route resembles a cabinet of curiosities: it includes, among other things, a century-old automaton, an Egyptian mummy, a Samurai armour and a six-metre giant. A Micro-Folie, a digital museum, complements the visit with touch-screen tablets, virtual reality headsets and a large wall of screens.
