About the museum
The Musée Louis de Funès opened on July 31, 2019 in Saint-Raphaël, on the 105th anniversary of the actor’s birth. It is located in the town where the comedian spent part of his life, and it presents itself as the only museum devoted entirely to the artist.
The collection comes from a former museum, the Musée du Cellier, which is now closed. Julia de Funès, the actor’s granddaughter, wanted this collection to remain open to the public, and the town of Saint-Raphaël helped find this new site, right next to the station.
Across some 400 m², the route traces the actor’s family life, his career, his friends and his awards. More than 350 documents are on display: personal and film-set photographs, drawings, letters, sometimes little-known film extracts, posters and sets. Telephones placed around the rooms let visitors hear the actor’s voice telling anecdotes. A play trail for children, illustrated by Stephan Zimmerli, accompanies the visit, and the museum regularly holds temporary exhibitions.
