About the museum

The museum occupies a five-storey blockhouse built in 1941 by the occupying army. It served as the command post and fire-control centre of the Graf Spee battery, the most important artillery battery in Finistère. Its four 280 mm guns, with a range of 30 kilometres, barred allied ships from entering the Rade de Brest.

This remnant of the Atlantic Wall, of which only three examples remain in Europe, was renovated and opened to the public in 2017. About 10% of its surface is visible from outside; the rest is underground.

The displays rely on testimonies and anecdotes, with thousands of objects, documents and photographs. The route descends from the German soldiers' quarters to thematic rooms on the war in Brittany and ends with a panoramic view over the entrance to the Rade de Brest, from the Crozon peninsula to the island of Ouessant.
