About the museum
The Mazan municipal museum was created in the 1970s. It occupies the Chapel of the Pénitents blancs at 27 rue Saint-Nazaire, whose painted ceiling is attributed to a master of the Avignon school, and the building has a small garden. The museum has held the Musée de France label since 2003.
Its collections cover prehistory, history, fossils, geology, numismatics, ornithology, old agricultural tools, religious art, crafts, fashion and folklore, as well as objects from archaeological excavations. A large share of the everyday objects and agricultural tools comes from donations by residents of Mazan.
