About the museum
The Musée municipal Gautron du Coudray, opened in 1937, presents itself as the first village museum. It occupies the former presbytery of Marzy. It shows the everyday life and folklore of a Nivernais village between the 18th century and the early 20th century.
The ethnographic section begins with a few traces of human presence in the commune and then presents the trades of the past: winegrowers, washerwomen, clog makers and farmers. Religious statues, historic musical instruments and a section on the fauna and flora of the Loire banks complete the tour.
The fine arts collection brings together paintings, prints, drawings and photographs, mainly by artists from the Nivernais or artists who worked in the Nièvre, with themes such as the Loire, landscapes and portraits. It also includes art faience from Nevers, Marzy and Clamecy. The museum holds at least three temporary exhibitions a year.
