About the museum
The museum is housed in the Château Buchillot, an 18th-century folly in Boulogne-Billancourt. It presents the work of the sculptor Paul Belmondo, considered one of the last great French classical sculptors.
The collection comes from the donation made to the city in 2007 by the artist's children, Muriel, Alain and Jean-Paul. The museum opened in September 2010. It holds 263 sculptures and molds, 452 medals and preparatory works, 966 drawings, as well as a studio collection with sketches, notebooks, tools and furniture.
The museography draws inspiration from 18th-century cabinets of curiosities and offers accessible storerooms showing the artist's preparatory work. The route also includes a re-creation of his Montparnasse studio. The garden and the courtyard of honor feature works by Paul Belmondo and other sculptors of his time, and temporary exhibitions are also held there.
